Bamboo wood is harvested from bamboo forests in the Guangzhou forests in Zhujiang province, Mainland China, which is also known as "The Bamboo Sea”. Woven strand bamboo flooring has long been adapted in many homes throughout Asia, and now gaining world popularity in the western countries. For a sustainable type of flooring, materials made of bamboo are recommended as the best alternative to rainforest wood. Trees (for lumber purposes) mature in more or less a hundred years while it takes 4-6 years for bamboo to reach its harvest time. Bamboos are not wood but grass so it grows faster than trees. Like wood, its durability is tested for years.

Engineered wood floors are processed by layering a fiber board underneath a top layer of hardwood. The design can let the board to the flooring contract and expand with the changing levels of humidity, thereby allowing engineered woods to adapt in areas that traditional wood flooring cannot. Hardwood flooring often receives negative reports on its maintenance issue. There must be a reason for that, but the reason isn’t updated anymore and maybe no longer applicable on hardwood floors nowadays. Although there was a time when they needed time-consuming routines, these types of floors are no longer difficult to maintain now because of upgrades done.

In building a new house, the subfloor is already sufficient for installation of the final flooring, eliminating underlayment procedures. If the floor finish is engineered or hardwood, a layer of rosin paper is all that it needs. If floor is subject for renovation it is advisable to change the underlayment because the subfloor may have already been worn out. Flooring underlayment must not be a thing to get confused of. It is true that flooring underlayment is sometimes needed and sometimes not because the subfloor is regarded the same. There are bright ideas to lay down underlayment before putting the finish floor.
